There are so many art mediums to do collage but as this week we are exploring ‘colours’ we decided to use coloured paper as the sole art medium for our collages.
Younger students were given pre-cut strips of paper to be more developmentally appropriate. That is a Montessori inspired activity of course.
Older students had the option to use the pre-cut strips or
to cut their own.
Each student had a plastic basket to collect his or her bits
of paper. The bits of paper they
did not use were put in our scrap box and became a collective material.
It was interesting to observe how carefully the children chose the colors they wanted to
use, how focused they were when cutting and pasting the bits of paper, and how
diverse the end result was.
